just making it or taking it

I really like how you connect the images within your diptychs on greatly varying levels. Your first one directly mimics form/shape, as does your third. Your third also uses color as a unifying factor. Your fourth one mimics subject to the point where I can image that the shapes are also similar; I can visualize the bottom of the girl's shoe looking like the shape on your scanogram. Your second one is the most intriguing for me because of your use of slides in your scanogram. It engages the viewer in an intellectual way, and is almost like a play within a play.

Vivid hues certainly seem to be a theme in your diptychs, especially warm ones like reds, oranges and yellows. For this reason I am especially drawn to your second because of the vividly cool tone of the blue. When placed in contrast to the bricky rich red the blue seems like a pool of water. In addition the squares of red that bring down the contrasting upper color are not immediately recognized as actually slides of the above image, which add a bit of subtle wit.

The third diptych is also clever because the scanogram imitates the photo but in two dimensions. There’s a smart correlation between the pattern the spray paint creates on the ground and the scattered red sugar as well as the flat red chip that seems like a slice from the pole.

The first also uses the same sense of comparison but it’s a little less clear. The machine can be contrasted with the piece of nature, but it’s less apparent that the teeth of the bulldozer are mirrored by the leaves of the plant. Similarly the insole/potatoe? Recalls the shoe on the left, but I find it a bit less engaging because there is no clear or hidden comparison.
